about child scholarship:

DOES CHILD SCHOLARSHIP WORK?

If we were to measure the impact alone on just our partner in Kenya, COMIDO SCHOOL, our belief is that what we have seen first-hand proves the impact and demonstrates that it is tied to so many other benefits beyond education, nutrition, and sanitation.

Take this young man. Being in school has not only given him a safe place of discovery, identity, and nutrition, it has developed his personality and his social skills. He is often seen smiling, singing, and bounding about. He is a far different boy than when he was wandering aimlessly throughout the surrounding streets.

We currently scholarship children at COMIDO at $32 a month, or a one year scholarship for $384. This helps to provide the following:

  • A competitive education
  • Staple meals two times a day
  • Access to clean water
  • Annual medical screenings
  • A gospel-centered learning environment
  • A recent study* was undertaken to find out whether or not child scholarships were helpful or hurtful in combatting poverty. Below are a few key findings about the impact on children:

  • 50%-80% more likely to complete a university education
  • 14%-18% more likely to have salaried employment as adults
  • 35% more likely to secure white-collar employment
  • 75% more likely to become community leaders as adults
  • Decreased teenage marriage and childbearing
  • Decreased the probability of living in a house with a dirt floor
  • Increased likelihood that an individual's house had electricity
  • Indicated that adults who benefited from child scholarship also lived in better-built houses
  • Were more likely to use mosquito nets (as a means to ward of disease, such as malaria)
  • Less likely to engage in smoke and drinking
